Introduction to Wool Appliqué

  • Mill Art Center and Gallery 61 N Main St Honeoye Falls, NY 14472 United States (map)

In this workshop you will learn the step-by-step basics of creating Wool Appliqué, working on an 8 1/2”x 8 1/2” background square of black wool.  Starting with drawing your own pattern from simple shapes such as circles, leaves, flowers, and/or a vase, you will then choose the colors for each of your shapes from a large variety of beautifully colored wool pieces.  Using a double-sided adhesive product, you will learn how to cut out your shapes and iron them to your black background so that your design is securely in place while you enjoy learning how to stitch each shape down with ease!  Finally, you will learn how to stitch around your shapes and add stems to your piece with embroidery flosses, using “blanket” and “stem” stitches.  You can either match your stitches to your colored shapes so they blend in or you can use contrasting threads so they stand out. All supplies will be provided. No art experience or sewing experience required, please note that we will be using sharp appliqué needles for stitching.

This class is for beginners and anyone who would like a simple refresher, it is designed for you to learn the basic Wool Appliqué process.
