OPEN STUDIOS AT THE MILL ART CENTER

FIGURE DRAWING - Open Studio

The Mill Art Center has arranged for live model sessions. There will be no instruction in these sessions, but there will be a monitor present who will set up the poses according to the wishes of the participants. Usually the sessions start with short warm up poses and progress to long poses. **Models can be nude or clothed. Easels and drawing boards are available but participants bring their own drawing materials.

Friday Morning with Lanna Pejovic - Monitor :: $20 per session payable with check or cash.

Dates :: Friday morning June 12th will be our last session from 9:30am - 12:30pm to resume in the Fall

Wednesday Evening with Stefan Lucas Allen:: $20 per session payable with check or cash.

Dates:: Wednesday from 6 - 9PM. We will break for the summer then resume in September.

Gelli Plate Printmaking - Open Studio Jean Stephens - monitor

Join with your fellow, experienced Gelli printmakers in this monitored, non-instructed studio time to make prints, experiment and share ideas. Participants are encouraged to bring their own assortment of tools - Gelli plate, brayer, stencils and specialty papers. The Mill provides paints, an assortment of basic papers, paper towels, stencils and lots of mark making tools. 


Summer Dates - Mondays from 10 am - 12:30 pm - June 1, 15 & 29, July 13th, August 3rd and 24th.

 The Encaustic Series - Open studio MONITORS KATHRYN BEVIER AND CONNIE EHINDERO

Have you had an interest in exploring painting with encaustic wax? Here is a series of classes for beginners or established encaustic artists alike to explore and share new (to you) techniques and materials. Painting with wax can go in so many individual directions and artist are constantly experimenting with incorporating new materials. Each class will have an hour of instruction followed by open studio time where you can work on your own pieces among fellow wax artists. All materials will be supplied, however, you will need to provide your own substrates. 8" x 8" wood panels are recommended. Registration in advance is required for each class, space is limited. Fall 2025 Dates are:

Summer Dates :: Tuesday Mornings June 2nd, June 30th, July 14th and August 4th from 9:30 - 12:30 

Costs: $55 a session

Printmaking Open Studio Monitors - Katherine Baca-Bielinis and Barbara McPhail

Are you looking to expand your printmaking experience? Welcome to Open Studio Printmaking. We are offering monthly sessions for those who have some printmaking experience and need a place to practice and explore various printmaking techniques. Each session is monitored by a professional printmaker, and you will have support from them throughout the 2 1/2 hours of open studio time. Registration in advance is required for each class, space is limited.

The Mill Art Center will provide for All Open Studio Sessions:

  • Press

  • Bench Hooks

  • Inking Palettes

  • Cleaning Oil

  • Glue

  • Paper towels

  • Newsprint

  • Scissors

For Kitchen Lithography Open Sessions the Mill Art Center will provide:

  • Oil-based ink in black and various other colors

  • Gum Arabic

  • Various drawing tools ( graphite, china markers, oil pastels, sharpies)

  • Aluminum foil

  • Coca Cola

For Monoprint, Linocut and Collagraph Sessions the Mill Art Center will provide:

  • Water-soluble ink in various colors

  • Bench Hooks

  • Tarlatan

  • Mat boards

For all Sessions You will be responsible for bringing your own:

  • Paper 

  • Linoleum if needed

  • Brayer

  • Gloves

  • Inks if a specific color is needed

  • For Kitchen Lithography, you will need to bring your own Plexiglass plate no larger than 12”x12” so you can take home your drawing securely. 

  • Carving tools if needed

  • Acrylic gloss medium for Collagraph

  • Textures for Collagraph 

  • Exacto knives if needed
