FIGURE PAINTING MARATHON

As painters, we always want to push our work into new territory: to break away from using the same few colors or to use combinations that create a richer depth of space and a fresher, less expected result. Color that is available in quantity and has a built-in structure of relationships in the mixtures can give us freedom to use it in new ways and bypass our usual decisions to arrive at a new place.

Instructional focus will include:

- looking at how various figurative artists achieved their unique color effects

- setting up an individual palette of relational colors

- small scale quick studies

- working on white and on colored ground
