Often, we are drawn to certain photographs because there is something unique about them. It could be the composition, lighting, colors, mood, subject matter or a combination of elements. Sometimes we are inspired to paint that subject ourselves. There are challenges with creating our own paintings based on another’s work of art. First, there is no point in duplicating the photograph. That’s copying and only repeats the original artist’s work. We want to express our own vision not someone else’s. In this course we will review elements in photographs that inspire you and determine if there are ways to alter lighting, colors and composition to fit your vision. We will practice following different processes in evaluating a photograph and applying them to your paintings. Watercolor, acrylic and oil painters are welcome. Bring your own painting materials and a notebook and pen.
