Used individually, encaustic and oil paints provide artists with a broad range of luminous and intriguing possibilities. In combination, these media invite artists to enter the realm of the sublime! Combining encaustics and oils (including R&F’s oil Pigment Sticks) can result in stunning art works; yet, that same combination can lead to utterly disastrous results—encaustics that never harden, oils that never dry, paintings with mushy spots and others that, over time, flake and crack apart…
