Strengthening Observation for teens
In this three week class we will focus on strengthening your observational skills through simple still life set ups. These set ups will be the prompt from which you can explore a variety of media which will allow each student to come to an even better understanding of their developing style. Students will also come away with a solid knowledge about the various materials that will be used with the intent of refining their appreciation for specific applications.

Sketchbook: Nature-Based Theme Development and Journaling
An artist’s sketchbook is a valuable resource, a portable studio and companion that provides you with a place to develop your ideas and journal while tapping into your imagination.
In this class, you will be encouraged to sketch from natural objects of your choosing. Guided exercises and prompts will help you explore your ideas.
You will need to bring a sketchbook.

Drawing 101: Fundamentals for Teens and Adults
This course aims to provide a solid foundation in the essential principles of art using line, form, value, and composition through the medium of graphite. This course is a great introduction to those who want to build their technical expertise and for those who want to expand upon existing skills and tackle tricky areas like foreshortening, differentiating textures, and achieving a full value-range.
Course Objectives:
1. Develop a fundamental understanding of drawing techniques and concepts.
2. Explore the various applications of graphite as a medium for artistic expression.
3. Gain proficiency in creating realistic representations using line, form, and value.
4. Understand the principles of composition.
5. Foster critical thinking skills by analyzing and providing constructive feedback.
This course will consist of four, two-hour classes every Tuesday for one month. Materials will be
provided. This class is intended for all levels of experience but is especially suited for beginners
and those who want to work on refining their existing drawing skills.

Portfolio Prep Class coming this fall
An artist’s portfolio is a valuable body of significant art work representing the unique “voice” and interpretation of the individual. This class is designed to sharpen your skills and encourage the development of personal themes. A wide variety of materials, surfaces, processes and techniques in drawing and painting will be demonstrated and employed to create these works. Completed pieces will emerge from observational studies of still life, self portrait and nature. Further explorations developed from a sketchbook and the student’s imagination will be included.
This class is a unique opportunity to learn from two dedicated, experienced and professional instructors, who offer their insights into preparing a quality portfolio for use in college and art school applications.
Materials and supplies will be provided.
Advisors: Bill Stephens and Bob Geroux
Mr. Stephens and Mr. Geroux are art educators and working artists, having taught high school art in Monroe County and the Finger Lakes region for several decades. They have mentored highly skilled young artists who have gone on to become successful art teachers, designers, illustrators, and fine artists.
